Running your own business is great, the rewards are endless but I am not afraid to admit that it can sometime be a bit lonely. The recent increase in the use of Social Media is great for our industry, it is an easy, quick way to keep other supplier and clients up to date about what you are up to, to share information and at times indulge in a bit of banter which always makes me smile. I love the wedding industry, everyone is so friendly, we are all so passionate about what we do and above all ensuring that our couple have the best day possible. Some of my best friends are fellow wedding supplier because the just get what you do, this is not a 9-5 job but the benifits by far outweigh the drawbacks. You can’t beat a good recommendation and there is no questions that Social Media has helped networking in our local area, I now have a great bank of supplier who’s work I see regularly, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to any of my couples.
So what is a “tweet up”? Well we chat, we recommend, but lots of us have never actually met. Even if we are all working at the same wedding our paths rarely cross. So I decided that it was about time that we put that right. An informal network evening where we could all get together, put faces to names, have a good old chinwag and enjoy some of the Hawke & Hunter’s delicious cocktails. It was a chance for a rare night off for so many of us who work unsociable hours doing what we love. The cocktail bar within the Hawke & Hunter was the perfect setting and the services was impeccable, we were very well looked after.
It was great to meet so many fantastic people, the atmosphere was great and the feedback has been brilliant. I hope that we can make this a regular thing, I am already working on the next one, a BBQ in the Hawke & Hunter’s Secret Garden, more information to come soon. So if you are a wedding supplier in Edinburgh and the surrounding area using social media we would love to see you there!
Also want to say a huge that you to everyone who came along, to all my great wedding friends, thank you for your chat, support and referrals, I appreciate it so much. To Jay from Elemental Weddings for his cool logo design and name badges and his lovely wife and business partner Christina for helping with the arrangements, organising the Facebook page and making a speech when I refused (public speaking is so not my thing!). Not forgetting Heather & Colin from Heather’s Cakes for providing the most yummy treats for us all, if you have never had a “cakepop” you need to check out her website they are the best!
Here are a few shots from the night, unfortuantely I spend more time chatting than snapping so thanks to Niels from Blue Sky Photography, Alan from Rankine Photography and Christina for taking a few too.
The cocktails were amazing. The “cake pops” were well received, very yummy indeed!
“Pablo” enjoying some attention from the ladies.
A self portrait of those left standing at the end of the night taken by yours truly, not the easist thing to do with a pro camera!
